Bunny Safari Lionhead Rabbitry

LIONHEAD RABBIT CARE SHEET

Feeding

1. Your bunny should always have fresh water available at all times. They will dehydrate very quickly and can die without clean water.

2. A good quality bunny pellet with a crude protein of no more than 16% will need to be provided as well. I provide my rabbits with as much food as they want. You will learn how much your individual rabbit consumes on a daily basis. This food is available at any pet store or most feed stores. I also mix in oatmeal with my pellets. They enjoy this and it helps to keep them regular. It also helps outside bunnies keep warm.

3. Timothy hay is also a necessity for lion head rabbits. The rabbit needs to have as much hay as it will consume. Lionhead rabbits can swallow their fur and this fur will get impacted in the digestive system if they do not have hay available to them. Only use TIMOTHY HAY. DO NOT USE ALFALFA. It is too high in protein and can be toxic.

4. You can give your bunny a variety of treats. I suggest dried papaya pieces, which also help keep the bunny’s digestive system clear of blockages. These can be obtained at a pet store. They can be found in the small animal section or in the bird section. Rabbits enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables. They like carrots, apples, corn on the cob, dark green lettuce, no iceberg, it is too watery and will give them loose stools which can cause dehydration. Celery leaves are ok, but the stalks are too stringy and can cause problems with some rabbits.
